A wonderful intergenerational mix of audience members from different cultures gathered to hear Chinese Whispers stories at our workshop reading – on Super Bowl Sunday, no less!
   
   
Engaging the audience:
After the workshop reading and artists’ discussion, cultural activist and author Arlene Goldbard led the audience in small group conversations about their own experiences of crossing borders between cultures. Â Many audience members reported that sharing in these story circles gave them a sense of community with other participants, and a deeper understanding of the Chinese Whispers stories they just heard.
This is very much part of the Chinese Whispers ethos: it’s not just about “them”–it’s about you, about all of us as a community made of differences, coming together to remember, learn, and celebrate.

Come to a unique workshop reading of preview excerpts from “Chinese Whispers: Golden GateSM” on Feb. 5, 3:00 – 5:00 pm, on the 1890 ferryboat “Eureka” at Hyde Street Pier. The reading will highlight stories contributed by amazing folks during Project Director Rene Yung’s current research in the SF Bay region, and include fresh soundscape from collaborating sound artist Jeremiah Moore.
Hear community members and proxy tellers recount handed down stories about generations of Chinese who settled in the region: little-known maritime stories, stories of enterprise and Trans-Pacific trade, of poignant details from the daily life of the early immigrants.
Bring your story of intercultural flow to share at facilitated audience story circles led by cultural blogger and author Arlene Goldbard.
It will be fun and informative, and full of ambience at the awesome SF Maritime Historical National Park. If you haven’t been there this is the perfect occasion. Accessible free event on the car deck of the ferry, so dress warmly.
